Trikidoo® – Frequently asked questions

How much is the Trikidoo?

The Trikidoo costs £985 and delivery within London is £61.

What is the maximum weight I can put on the Trikidoo seat?

The combined maximum weight of the children and all baggage carried at the back of the Trikidoo® must not exceed 60kg. Ensure initially and recheck from time to time that your children’s combined weight/size does not exceed the maximum capacity of the seat.

What age child can I put on the Trikidoo?

The minimum age of child to be carried on the Trikidoo is 18 months (9kg). Do not carry a child that is too young to sit safely in the seat. Only carry children that are able to sit unaided for a longer period of time, at least as long as the intended cycle journey. If you have a younger child, you can attach a YEPP Mini Front Seat baby carrier between yourself and the handlebars. We sell them here.

I’m only going a short way. Should I still put the harness on the kids?

Yes. Always use the safety harness for your children, even for very short trips, and slide the black plastic triangle up the restraints once they are affixed. This will prevent them slipping off your child’s shoulders. Children often fall asleep in cycle seats, and might slip out if unrestrained. If you have a spill, or just have to brake hard, the harness will act like a seat-belt to lessen the chance of the child being hurt.

Should my children wear a helmet on the Trikidoo?

Of course. Always have your children wear a helmet when riding any bike.

I’ve never ridden a tricycle before. Is it very different?

It take a few days to get used to a tricycle. You don’t need to balance in the same way as you do on a bike, and at the beginning turning a corner can feel a bit odd. Don’t worry. You’ll get used to it very quickly. Practise riding off-road or on quiet roads first. Also tricycles are sensitive to the camber of the road, so you may feel a slight tilt in the first few days before your body automatically compensates. Slow down gradually, well in advance of junctions. The extra weight means stopping takes longer, and harsh braking will give the child a rough ride.

What else do I need to do?

Always remind your children to keep their arms and legs in, and never to reach out when in the Trikidoo.

Make sure that it is not possible for any part of your children’s bodies or clothing to come into contact with any moving part of the seat or cycle, and re-check as the children grow (in particular with regard to the saddle springs, the wheels and the brakes.)

Make sure there are never any sharp objects that your children can touch – ie frayed cables.

Check the security of the frame fasteners frequently.

Make sure the harness is not loose or able to become trapped in any moving parts, particularly the wheels, including when the cycle is ridden without a child in the seat.

Children in tricycle seats need to be more warmly clothed than riders, and should be protected from the rain.

In the event of excessive temperature (eg due to direct exposure to the sun) always check the seat before placing your children in it.

What if I only have one child to transport?

You can still ride the Trikidoo with just one child in the seat. They can sit on their side. They don’t have to be centrally located.

Can I remove the Trikidoo children’s seat?

Yes. To remove the seat frame from the tricycle, you will need a spanner. When transporting the tricycle by car (outside the car) remove the seat. Air turbulence might damage the seat or loosen its fastenings to the tricycle, which could result in an accident.

Can I clean the Trikidoo children’s seat?

Yes. The seat may be cleaned with a damp cloth.

What age does the Bobike baby carrier for the front go up to?

Approximately two and a half depending on the weight of your child, after which your youngest can transfer to the back of the Trikidoo as your eldest will probably be cycling on their own on the pavement next to you by that time.
